Widgets

DTI consultants are familiar with the appropriate utilization and delivery of all the different flavors of widgets. DTI specializes in widget engines which help deliver personalized information based on user preferences where end users can view on demand. Most widgets we design are free downloads from Vendors’ websites. This information is seamlessly updateable and real time to the end user. Widgets have a nice graphical user interface positioned for easy access to end user or targeted audience. Typically, widgets pull information from several sources and from databases to extend this valuable data to the surface for easy accessibility.

Mashups

DTI web developers utilize the concept of mashup web applications. Here is a an overview from WikipeDia, “Content used in mashups is typically sourced from a third party via a public interface or API (web services), although some in the community believe that cases where private interfaces are used should not count as mashups[citation needed]. Other methods of sourcing content for mashups include Web feeds (e.g. RSS or Atom), and screen scraping. Many people are experimenting with mashups using Amazon, eBay, Flickr, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and YouTube APIs, which has led to the creation of the mashup editor.

The architecture of Mashup web applications is always composed of three parts:

  • The content provider: it is the source of the data. Data is made available using an API and different Web-protocols such as RSS, REST, and Web Service
  • The Mashup site: is the web application which provides the new service using different data sources that are not owned by it.
  • The client web browser: is the user interface of the Mashup. In a web-application, the content can be mashed by the client web browsers using client side web language for example JavaScript.”

DTI’s expert web developers were using mashups before they were called mashups. The use of mashups are more prevalent now due to the extension of multiple resources and web applications over the Internet. If a mashup makes sense for your project, DTI has the proven experience to deliver.

“DTI extends its process and methodology throughout every project… including ecommerce solutions”

A true cost effective business-to-business ecommerce environment requires an end-to-end solution that is flexible for both customers and the business rules driving the content and commerce. This means that customers have web access to product information and availability, order status and history, account information. Site operators must have full control over product content, product management, inventory, order fulfillment and shipping.

SOA Services PDF Print E-mail
DESIGN, DEVELOP, DELIVER

SOA & web services: So why all the fuss about how IT is implemented? Think about five key areas critical to business: people, processes, information, reuse and connectivity

The SOA approach is based on the common-sense view that technology should follow the lead of particular business requirements—instead of forcing business objectives to fit the requirements of technology. SOA accomplishes this by using Web services technologies such as XML to link applications and systems together, so each IT component becomes a flexible building block that can be used for multiple purposes. By using XML wrappers, SOA bypasses the need to rip and replace systems to unearth information needed for new applications, which are often found in isolated silos throughout an organization. Instead, SOA implementations typically let existing information stay where it currently resides, allowing access to that data across an organization for new purposes.

This building block method of reusing information through Web-based tools means that SMBs don’t have to worry about disrupting entire systems and processes for the sake of a business application upgrade . In most of these business application upgrades, SMB managers have traditionally had to consider the effort required to hard-code the integration of a new system with every appropriate existing application and database—and then repeat this process with other software upgrades.

But in SOA engagements, integration is replaced with the creation of Web services that can wrap around an existing application or break down several applications for new purposes. Similarly, Web services seamlessly interact with each other because they are built on open standards. So, with SOA, mixing and matching existing software applications can be accomplished quickly to meet new business challenges.

Once an SOA-enabled project is implemented, employees and trading partners typically find information access to be easier, which improves productivity, while managers discover that legacy systems have gained a new lease on life by continuing to be productive components of an IT investment. In the world according to SOA, if existing code works and has been de-bugged in the past, it still has value. Besides, risks are minimized when tested and proven applications are reused in new ways within an organization.
